HCS Parent Newsletter for 11.5.21

PRINCIPAL NEWS…

Happy November!  As the weather becomes increasingly colder, please provide your child(ren) with appropriate clothing.  We will continue to go outside for PE and Recess, but want to make sure all of the students are dressed appropriately.  If you have any beginning of the year change of clothes at school, it may be time to send some more winter attire.  If your family requires any assistance with obtaining these belongings, please do not hesitate to contact the main office and we will partner with you.

USHERS are needed for the 4th and 5th grade musical on Thursday, November 18th.  Please contact laura.bankemper@bps101.net if you are able to provide additional assistance.  We currently have 1 and are required to have 5-6 individuals present, there is a mini training provided prior to the beginning of the event.

What’s happening at Storm, from a student perspective.  We asked our students what is your favorite part of school and what would you like to be when you grow up, here are some of the responses:

Kindergarten: Free choice time & a Firefighter / Lunch and Free choice time & Zookeeper / Math & Nurse / Recess & Teacher.

Third Grade: Math and Gym & Pediatric Doctor / The end of the day & Artist, Singer, Dancer / Lunch & Spy, Music Teacher, Firefighter / Reading & Football Player / Art and PE & Art Teacher.

Fifth Grade: Friends & Computer Coder / Friends & MLB Player / Math & First baseman for the NYY.

The first trimester will end on November 19th.  BPS is committed to partnering with you and providing information about your child’s growth so far this year.  As you know the Trimester Reflection includes student goal setting, self-reflection on learning behaviors, and an academic overview with teacher comments. Trimester reflections will be posted on November 23rd in Google Classroom or Seesaw.  Your child’s teacher will communicate specifically how to access the reflections.  Thank you for your partnership!

This weekend is Daylight Savings, which means everyone will need to change their clocks back 1 hour on Sunday, November 7th at 2:00 am.  Please plan accordingly and begin having conversations about any changes in routines that may or may not come from the time change.  Supervision will continue to be provided beginning at 8:45am when the doors open to permit students entry.

Campus monitor availability at H.C. Storm.  We currently have one additional campus monitor position available, the hours are from 11:00-1:30 daily.  If you are interested, please feel free to visit our HR Department link on www.bps101.net to complete the application process.  If you have any specific questions, contact the office and we will gladly be able to assist.

We continue to appreciate all the extra work our teachers are doing yet again in an atypical school year and want to offer parents the opportunity to provide any classroom items that you may need. We also want to acknowledge that with the school supplies being a bit different this year, you may already be seeing items your classroom needs more immediately. Parents have the chance to fulfill any of the items to be dropped off at HC Storm or can send them to school with their child. We will be including the Giving Tree link in the PTO weekly emails starting next week. Email Katie Kramer at  klicciardi@gmail.com with the subject Giving Tree.

  • Please make sure to follow us on Facebook for the most up to date information: What’s Happening at HC Storm Elementary: PTO Updates.  This will be the best way for remote learners to connect with Storm for the time being while email lists are sorted out through the district.
