HCS Watch D.O.G.S.

As we welcome you to H.C. Storm School, we wanted to share a little bit about our Watch D.O.G.S. program. Specifically, we want you to know what the Watch D.O.G.S. program is, how you might become involved in this program, and how it positively impacts our students. Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is a program that increases father involvement in schools and is an educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering.

What are the goals of H.C. Storm’s Watch D.O.G.S. program?

1) To provide positive male role models for our students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.

2) To provide an extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, be a positive presence in the cafeteria, and to provide an additional set of hands to support classroom teachers in reaching all of our students.

Who are Watch D.O.G.S. and how does the program work?

WATCH D.O.G.S., a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. Watch D.O.G.S. dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.  (National Center for Fathering)
