HCS Parent Newsletter for 10.21.22

PRINCIPAL NEWS…

We will continue with weekly Messengers on Fridays throughout the school year. All school messengers can also be found and translated into over 125 languages on our News Wall

Continuaremos con Mensajeros semanales los viernes durante todo el año escolar. Todos los mensajeros escolares también se pueden encontrar y traducir a más de 125 idiomas en nuestro muro de noticias.

Thank you to all of the families who have been participating in all of the PTO events and activities that have been provided. We know there have been a lot of informational flyers sent home, but we appreciate the continued development and strengthening of our HC Storm Community.  With all of the activities, various school sponsored clubs have been assisting in promoting and building up the hype, giving students an active role within the school and for their classmates, including our next author visit.

Monday 10.24, we have Author and Illustrator Adam Rex conducting an assembly beginning at 9:15 for all of our students.  Please support the timely start of the assembly and arrive on time.  He will share this process of writing his new book and how he has entered this amazing profession.

With the colder weather approaching and an increase in the number of vehicles coming to and from school, please refamiliarize yourself with our Arrival and Dismissal procedures and communicate with any family member who may participate in these procedures.  Please follow the directives of the staff members and pull all the way forward to permit less cars on Van Nortwick or Illinois.  This year we do have a couple of more buses, so please be patient and remember it is unlawful to pass a bus if the stop sign is extended and the lights are flashing.  With the increased traffic, we continue to have families and students ride their bikes or scooters to school.  Please continue to pay extreme attention to those who are using other means to travel to and from school and if your child(ren) are doing it, it might be a great refresher to review the rules/expectations of the road, as some students leave school property and ride in the street.  We appreciate your patience and cooperation to ensure the safety of all of your students and families.

Halloween reminders:  H.C. Storm has moved Halloween up to Friday 10.28 in alignment with the Monster Bash beginning at 7:00 that evening.  Students are able to wear appropriate, non-disruptive costumes the entire day.  If you need assistance for a costume, please notify the main office or your classroom teacher.  We are having a parade beginning at 2:15, the current plan is to conduct the parade outside, but we may have to pivot to the gym.  Parents and family members are able to observe the parade, upon conclusion of the parade, students will return to their classrooms and participate in Halloween parties with room parents and minimal volunteers.  If you do not wish your son or daughter to participate in any portion of the planned activities, please inform the main office and we will make arrangements.  Actual Halloween, Monday 10.31, will be a ‘typical’ day of learning and students will not be wearing costumes.
