HCS Parent Newsletter for 09.23.22

PRINCIPAL NEWS…

We will continue with weekly Messengers on Fridays throughout the school year. All school messengers can also be found and translated into over 125 languages on our News Wall

Continuaremos con Mensajeros semanales los viernes durante todo el año escolar. Todos los mensajeros escolares también se pueden encontrar y traducir a más de 125 idiomas en nuestro muro de noticias.

Storm is pleased to announce that the following school sponsored activities are up and running: K-Kids, Student Council, Green Team, 5th grade Band, and 4th & 5th grade Chorus.  The students are talking about all the future plans and fun activities they are going to participate in.  Please continue to stay tuned for additional school sponsored activities for a variety of grade levels to participate in, which will be coming out in the next couple of months.  Research shows the more involved in school activities students are at an early age, directly correlates to experiences and activities in High School / College / Careers.

Next week begins the Fall MAP assessment window.  Each day, please have our students get a good night’s rest and come to school with a fully charged Chromebook.  We are using this assessment to determine where students are performing to guide our instructional strategies, as well as developing stamina for assessments and overall perseverance.  If your student is going to be out, we are intending to use the latter part of the week for make-ups.

Parent / Teacher conference windows are now open until October 6th.  Each of your classroom teachers should have provided you a schedule of dates and times to sign up for a conference; using a combination of virtual or in-person opportunities.  Our goal is to provide every family who wants a conference, the chance to receive a conference.  If you have not yet registered, please work directly with your classroom teachers to schedule.

Please check your child(ren)’s backpacks and ensure they are coming to school with water bottles.  When students don’t not have water bottles we attempt to accommodate them with donated water bottles or providing cups for water, but these tend to spill and are becoming more of a distraction in the classrooms.  We appreciate your assistance and support.

  • Jasmine Warga, award winning author, is coming to HC Storm. H. C. Storm School is delighted to welcome award-winning author Jasmine Warga on Tuesday, October 4th. Ms. Warga will talk with third, fourth, and fifth grade students about her career as an author and discuss her new book, A Rover’s Story. An order form was sent home to all 3-5 grade students. To guarantee a personalized copy of this book, please return the order form with payment (cash or check payable to H. C. Storm School) by Monday, October 3rd. If you miss that date, there will be a limited supply of signed books available for purchase through October 18th. Here is a copy of the order form. Thank you to our PTO for hosting an Anderson’s book fair. The author visit, which would normally cost thousands of dollars, is FREE because Anderson’s Book Store graciously sends these authors to schools that host their book fairs. In the past we have had incredible visits with Henry Winkler, Jamie Lee Curtis, David Shannon, and Aaron Reynolds. We look forward to hosting another author or illustrator in the spring for the lower grade levels. Please sign up through the PTO to help with the Anderson’s book fair this October. Your help will continue this great tradition of not only hosting great authors and illustrators for your children, but also building your child’s love of reading by purchasing books at the fair.
